Statistics indicate that only 3% of people tested for intelligence quotient achieve genius IQ scores.

50% of the population fall into the average range. 25% fall into the below average range. 22% of those tested achieve 'above average' but not quite genius IQ scores.

Of the 3% that achieve genius IQ scores, only 0.5% of those score 140 and above.

And the greatest geniuses fall into a unique echelon of 0.01% of the tested population who have the highest genius IQ scores (see 'genius IQ' sidebar link).

Genius IQ Scores on Different IQ Tests

The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test shows that Genius IQ Scores start at around 130 and progress into the super genius range of about 145. Mega-Genius Jim Diamond claims to have tested at 200+ for the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test.

Mensa, the high IQ society, require members to have a Stanford-Binet IQ test score of at least 132. The genius range starting at around 135, with super genius at about 148 and above.

High IQ & Genius IQ scores Genius or near-genius IQ is considered to start around 140 to 145. Less than 1/4 of 1 percent fall into this category.
